Thank you for your interest in a custom painting. I create original oil paintings ranging from portraits and animals to landscapes, still life, and imaginative scenes. Getting Started
The process begins with an email to Ericakilbourn4@gmail.com.. Please include your idea, preferred size, and any reference images you may have. From there, we will discuss the concept, composition, and overall direction of the painting to ensure a clear vision before moving forward. I will provide preliminary sketches or composition options to confirm the direction of the piece.
For portraits (people or pets), high-quality reference photos are essential. The better the photos, the stronger the final painting. If needed, I can provide guidance on taking suitable reference images. I reserve the right to decline a commission based on subject matter, available references, or overall fit.
Additional subjects, increased detail, or complex compositions may increase the final price. All pricing will be confirmed and agreed upon before beginning the painting. Paintings are created on either canvas or panel, depending on the needs of the piece. This can be discussed with the client or left to the artist’s discretion.
Timeline
Most commissions take approximately 4 to 16 weeks, though larger or more detailed pieces may take longer. Timing depends on size, complexity, and current workload.
If your painting is intended as a gift, please plan several months in advance. I only accept commissions when I am confident I can meet the timeline discussed.
Payment
I’m happy to discuss ideas, references, and overall direction at no cost. Once I begin sketching or creating visual concepts, a $50 design fee is required. This covers the time spent developing your painting and will be applied toward the final cost if you move forward.
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your commission and begin work. The remaining balance is due upon completion, prior to shipping. An invoice will be sent when your painting is nearly finished to allow time for payment arrangements.
Process & Updates
You will receive periodic progress updates throughout the painting process. This allows for minor adjustments if needed and ensures the painting is developing as expected. While I am reaching the completion stage of your painting, I will reach out to you with some final images, and try to accommodate any minor changes. I don’t typically share images of works-in-progress because they can look quite different from the final piece. Once the painting is in its final stages, major changes cannot be accommodated.
Cancellations
Deposits are non-refundable once work has begun. In the rare event that we cannot reach an agreement on final adjustments, I reserve the right to conclude the commission. You are free to cancel your commission at any time, and forfeit your deposit.
Framing & Shipping
Framing is optional and available at an additional cost, typically ranging from $30–$150+ depending on size and style. Options can be discussed prior to completion. You are free to purchase the painting with no frame, and have it framed professionally at a reputable art framer near you.
Paintings will be shipped securely with tracking once full payment has been received. Shipping is typically not included in the final commission price.
